Ok I am no Bonnie Raitt. But I would like to sing the blues about the reporting of the economic outlook in CT. especially for the housing industry. I have gone to two seminars in the last week to listen to area experts and their predictions for the state of CT. and I am here to tell you the Great Recession is far from over.

On September 1, Edward Deak, Professor of Economics at Fairfield University spoke to the HBRA (Home Builders & Remodelers Assoc. of Fairfield County). His” good news “ is that there will not be a double dip just one dip in the next six months. He showed statistics that if most businesses are in recession the housing industry is suffering a more restrained recovery, also known as a depression. In 2005 there were 12,269 home permits vs. 3,355 expected by the end of 2010. The housing industry has one the highest percentages of unemployed (over 15,000). This was no surprise to the audience, who are mostly small business owners. The self employed. These entrepreneurs are the heart and soul of our economy. Check out Professor Deak’s presentation at:

They know self employment is both a way out of unemployment and a chance to exploit new opportunities. We have held business growth seminars at Ring’s End Lumber, Tile America and other local construction friendly locations to help educate these small business owners learn new ways to execute strategies to grow.

We recently held a seminar at New Perspective Cabinetry & Design in Westport. Owner Sharon Rychlik has been in the cabinetry design business since 1985 and her business is not just thriving it is growing. Sharon works with architects, builders and interior designers and has a showroom at 34 Imperial Ave. She is a great networker and understands the importance of sharing leads and understands by helping other small business out, she helps herself. By hosting this event she has several appointments lined up with builders.

If you are small business owner who would like to gain some new strategies to be more profitable to get through 2010:Q3 to 2014 Q4 then please register for our next free seminar at the Mutual Security Credit Union in Norwalk, CT. on October 6th. Why not take the time now to plan so when the recession ends, you will have the skills and tools to succeed. Hey Connecticut. Let’s give him something to talk about! You can register at www.actioncoachnow.com
